At The Custom Shop we are committed to doing everything we can to minimise our environmental footprint, encourage and support our clients to be aware of the sustainability implications of their builds, and spread the message of low-impact production we follow at our workshop. Our position on sustainability and environmental protection can be broken down into three key areas: message, materials and methods.

Message

There is no escaping the fact that (for the time being at least) the majority of campervans are powered by fossil fuels. Fortunately, campervans tend to enjoy a considerably longer life than cars, and we are always stoked to see lovingly-maintained older vehicles park up at the neighbouring pitch. Our message is that quality lasts, and miraculous things can be achieved through upcycling, mending and repurposing your vehicle. We now stock a range of universal parts and components that can help bring your van up to date, and are more than happy to offer guidance and support on how to keep your vehicle roadworthy and meeting your demands as the years roll by.

Materials

We are proud to have close relationships with our suppliers, from specialist-machined components and fittings to the fabrics and other raw materials that make up a conversion from The Custom Shop. When sourcing materials for your van, we focus on the lifelong hardiness and usability they offer, in order to minimise costly and wasteful early replacement due to failure or excessive wear (you can read more about our materials here). Using the latest materials that reduce the overall weight of the conversion is an essential part of ensuring usability, driving comfort and fuel economy, and we have factored this into every sourcing decision.

Methods

The Custom Shop enjoys a reputation for high-tech production and laser like precision in our completed builds. We use the latest technologies and tools to minimise wastage, cutting and stitching errors, and any other obstacles that could end up with valuable materials going in the bin. Conversions from The Custom Shop are intended to absolutely maximise heat retention, insulation and weatherproofing, so that you can relax and enjoy your trip without worrying about wasting time and energy on unnecessary heating.
